Satander used to be called Bradford & Bingley Building Society, bought by Abbey National !! (Who, through the ISA system, stole £14000 from us)

My wife and I are both unemployed, I had £6 in my account and requested a withdrawal of £5 to buy some electricity (pay as you go)

THEY REFUSED !! shocked

I asked them why? ... they said the minimum you can withdrawal is £31 !!

So based on that, if an old person with little money tried to make a withdrawal for food or electricity they would starve or freeze to death !!

WARNING: It has taken a serious turn in the UK

the good old british system screws it's residents again.

Try rubbing bovril on ya face, roll in some crap, throw the wifes tea-towel on ya head and borrow around 9 kids from the local estate. Then go back the job center and hey presto........
you'll have your benefits increased 300 percent, a 5 bedroomed house and won't be questioned once about finding work.

as for your bank, they'll screw you no matter where your from

This doesn't bode well! Our bank is Alliance-Leicester which is also part of the Santander take over, I think the name is changing any time soon.....they promise us that nothing will change? Now I feel worried it will........my overdraft fee is only £5 a month!

Can you use the local post office to make deposits/withdrawals ? We can with our card and they should let you take just £5.....

Roland Rat is the man to speak to on this one, he works for the social and is very helpful with info and rights, I'd suggest sending him a PM and asking.

when i opened the account they told me that cash machine cards are no longer issued, you can only draw your money from ..

Bradford & Bingley or (now the takeover is complete) Abbey National ... (all part of Santander)

wanna really know about the UK (Corporation)? ... listen to John Harris @ TPUC.org!

Francisco de Paula Santander

Santander, Francisco de Paula, 1792-1840, Colombian revolutionist. Given command of the guerrillas of the llanos by Simón Bolívar, Santander materially contributed to the victory at Boyacá. In Oct., 1821, he became vice president of Colombia and ably administered the country during Bolívar's long absences. A believer in constitutional government, Santander led the federalist opposition to Bolívar, who, on Sept. 24, 1828, suspended him from office. That night Bolívar barely escaped assassination. Convicted without proof of complicity in the plot, Santander was sentenced to death, but was instead banished. After Bolívar's death and the dissolution of the republic of Greater Colombia, he returned and served (1832-36) as president of New Granada. His administration was competent, but there were plots against his life and he maintained control only by force.

See study by D. Bushnell (1970).
