simple question is it letting any one download from it, it isn't letting me download anything from it get the red arrow on utorrent

I think you'll need to be more specific; Which torrent(s) are you having trouble with?

Try deleting the torrent, then re add it. I had that gltich with another torrent and was told to do that and it worked fine.

Just looked on eztv, and there are no seeders etc for that torrent. That appears to be the problem.

Others have it if you look around.

I believe your problem is a lack of UDP support so upgrade to the newest uTorrent ( or at least a version later than 2.0 ).

Probably as 1.8.1 is stable and often used instead of the newer versions. I prefer 1.8 too and have no problems with it.

Well... the torrent in question only has UDP trackers which leaves only DHT/PEX for peer discovery. As such, if you don't want to upgrade you should enable these.

If they are already enabled then something else is wrong, post a screenshot of the logger tab.

That was a good suggestion to make, is Strangers utor set up right to enable UDP?

No, that's what I mean... UDP support was only added in version 2.0 of uTorrent.

As well as ( or, in this case, instead of ) trackers uTorrent can still use Distributed Hash Tables ( DHT ) and Peer EXchange ( PEX ) to find peers but in the status bar you'll notice that DHT is turned off.

If I remember correctly, enabling them is as simple as checking a box or two in preferences - in the 'BitTorrent' tab I would think ( just have a look ). However, keep in mind that if you use private trackers with ratio limits, etc you may run into trouble because if you're not using the tracker it can't record your statistics ( which is probably why you have DHT/PEX turned off ).

My suggestion is still to upgrade though.

The trouble with just adding trackers yourself is that you will have to do it for every torrent without http trackers and with more and more sites ( including EZTV ) moving exclusively to UDP it seems like a lot of unnecessary effort when you could just upgrade.

I've just updated to the latest utorrent to see what your on about turnip.

@thewall - I don't know which version you came from but since you didn't seem to have trouble with UDP trackers I'm assuming it was later than 2.0; In which case I think you already had uTP ( unless you turned it off ) so you shouldn't really see any network performance difference but I think they added streaming and the webUI in 3.0 which should be nice. I haven't really had much of a play so if you do I would quite like to hear the verdict on those two in particular...

I was using 1.8.2 before mate and never had any bother, I did up date it to the latest version and everything still seems to be working fine. I can't say that I've noticed any difference at all but I will continue to use it.

I like the streaming option but the apps are pretty poor, I'm sure they will improve in time though.


A question for you turnip...

I tried using the RSS Feed for downloading the vast amount of tv shows that I watch but I can't get the RSS Downloader to work at all.



When I try to filter the stuff I don't want it never works, I've clicked the ? and it doesn't give me any results for the filtered feed.

I'm not really the best one to ask about feeds to be honest. Any that I use/have used I've just set them up and they've worked so I've never really looked into it. I will try though...

To be clear, the problem is that it cannot match 'Boardwalk Empire' ( and which others ) ?

But, as far as I know, it won't because they're not in the latest feed ...?

I think that it'll pick them up when they come around again as it is but, as an aside, you may want to use wildcards too - for example 'boardwalk?empire*'.

It seems to be working with the wild cards now mate, how would I write it for a tv program with one word?

I'm using the feeds from The Piratebay, EZTV feeds don't always have x264 for all the tv programs I watch.

As far as I know there are 3 special characters you can use in uTorrent ( it's like a slimline version of regex or something ) - * ? and |.

* substitutes for any number of any character or combination of characters;
? substitutes for one of any character; and,
| substitutes for 'or'.

So, for example -

*nikita* matches anything containing nikita; No matter what comes before or after it.

*boardwalk?empire* again matches anything containing the words no matter what comes before or after but it also allows for any single character to be between the two. This is useful because if you used say *boardwalk.empire* and the uploader decided to use underscores as the separator instead ( boardwalk_empire ) then you would miss it.

*warehouse?13*|*warehouse?thirteen* again ignores the before and after and allows for any single character separator but it also will match both the number ( 13 ) and the word ( thirteen ).

Note: - It's case insensitive.

As for not getting any results I still think it's because you're looking to match shows that aren't actually in the feed ( it's not an infinite list ). For example - swapping from the EZTV feed to TPB - TV Shows Feed you will get a match immediately for Boardwalk Empire because it's in the feed but not for Bones because it's not in either. However setting up the filter still works and when that show is next released I'm pretty certain it will be picked up.

Terra nova is shite and The Secret Circle looks like a cheap teen girl version of the movie The Craft (which in itself was crap)

Homeland does look good, American Horror Story too looks decent..
