| Yeah, go for it mate...i'd have to be the anti everything anyway, because, well, i am.... But as you say we all have our strong opinions on things so why not..we'd obviously need a pro and and anti and would folks have to have a mediator or is it goin be a case of sort it out the back on the lawn..... Work something out mate, i'll leave it in your capable handwringing hands... | |

| Sounds like a good idea to me, count me in! Just don't pair me up with .tUrniP because I get all confuddled when he uses them big words! Set up some rules and work out the plan | |

| To be honest I can't think how best to set this up but I'm in the mood for it; I'll argue for or against anything, so that's at least one entrant. Maybe two teams of two: 1a posts - 2a posts -1b posts - 2b posts - 2a/b respond - 1a/b respond - questions - poll ? Time limit: ? Word limit: ? I don't know ... Does anyone else fancy picking it up? | |

| How about starting with a list of topics to choose from, then two people go head to head, one for and one against (decided beforehand by the controller) Once the debate has taken place we set up a poll for people to decide the winner? I know TW was thinking along these lines, I'm phoning him later so I'll ask him what he was planning, maybe I might even be able to get him to come back and join in As for a time frame, what about say 3 or 4 responses each? Just ideas, we can organise something I'm sure | |

| However it's done I just think it's a grand idea, one that should be brought to fruition. | |

| What we did once on another forum, was hold the same debating contest but the admin chose the topic to debate, and then the members went at it. Some topics went into hundreds of pages some just a few posts. The other one was what has been mentioned already. Only problem we came across was other's wanted in on it at the same time as the 2 debating. Or finding somebody who had an opposing view. Good fun whatever way TW had planned. | |

| I've put in my request to TW via Julz, I'm not sure he'll be in the best mood since his beloved Rangers lost to Celtic tonight but I'll keep my fingers crossed.
If we went with the one to one method we could have a mod on standby to delete posts that should not appear, if anyone wants to add comments once the debate is over then they can feel free to post them.
First off we will need a master of ceremonies to organise the topics and debaters and to say who will be for and against each time......In any debating contest you have to go with what you are given, so even if you are anti or pro something in real life you must still argue the toss for the side you are given.
I'm just on the blower to TW now............ | |

| It's TW's baby so he should be Master of the Trumpet. I think that is fair and I put that up for the vote. TW to be Master of the Trumpet, ceremonies. Who seconds it? As for mods moderating posts. My own opinion it can work but it can turn things ugly too. I favour hands off method. 2 men enter one man leave philosphy should previal those debating should know what they are entering and that should be it. Rules, only one I can think of should be in place is that retorting to name calling, personal info divulging and taking any grudge to other areas is a NO NO! If you can;t keep it civil don't enter TW's ring. | |

| No , I mean deleting anything other than what the 2 involved should post, as in if other members try to stick their beak in during a debate? I don't think this will happen as most of us will already understand the rules and know that we are not allowed to participate until it's our turn ........but just in case. ............and peeeeerlease, do we have to discuss TW's ring? | |
