The sun is running a petition to stop the UK being robbed at the petrol pumps. Please sign it, even if yu don't have a car. Fuel costs at the pump are also the same hyped prices for home heating as well.

Isn't the tax on fuel already just short of 200%, coupled with the rise in the price of crude oil how much difference can really be made?

UK drivers pay 2 taxes on petrol they buy at the pump . Fuel campaigners complain about the fact that VAT is charged on the cost of fuel and the duty and feel it should only be calculated on the cost of the fuel for a fairer petrol price. As around two-thirds of the price of petrol is tax? It's something like for every £50 you spend at the pumps, you actually get £17 of petrol.


Not sure how accurate this is, but (bad at maths) Petrol per gallon is now over £5.00 The litre conversion hides the true cost, even though the litre price of £128.68 has people complaining at the high cost, it still hides the true cost to motorists. Since 1995 petrol has gone up by 50%

Fuel breaksdown something like this.
40 Litres of Premium Unleaaded petrol = £ 9.72
Government Fuel tax = £ 19.52 ( it's that part that needs to come down.
VAT =£ 5.11
TOTAL= £ 34.35

Come April that Fuel tax will shoot up. Plus VAT has gone up to. So that means the fuel you actually get has gone down, the VAT and Fuel tax have gone up.

how the hell is it legal to do this, to so blatantly abuse peoples need for fuel. Why is it no other country needs to do this, isn't this a type of extorsion

The french gouvernement is the same as the british . Here diesel is at 1.3 euros a liter at the supermarket pumps !

Probably, but I am tempted to use my law qualification and get some Petitions set up. First one, make nov 5th the one day where it is legal to try and blow up parliament, while wearing a Guy Fawkes mask.
