Quote:
A LOVELORN Sheffield man who was conned into driving to Scotland to meet a girl who doesn't exist says his life has been ruined after details of the prank hit the internet.
Stuart Slann said he receives 300 mocking emails a day and people laugh at him in the street after hoaxers published details of the elaborate scam on Facebook – and it spread like wildfire. Now a Google search of his name returns 650,000 pages.

He says some of the ridicule is venomous because many versions of the story report he is married, when in fact his divorce was finalised in October.

The Star reported last week how the 39-year-old of Hillsborough drove 700 miles to a remote farm in Aberdeen to meet a woman called Emma whom he had been emailing for a month.

But when he arrived in Scotland the Manchester United fan received a phone call from a Liverpool supporter he met on holiday in Mexico who revealed it was a hoax.

A video explaining Stuart's wild goose chase and the phone conversation was posted on the internet sparking a nightmare for the unemployed dad-of-one.

He said: "I just can't take it any more, I'm leaving Sheffield and moving to Derby. It's gone way, way beyond a prank. My life is a nightmare at the moment, the abuse is unbearable.

"I don't know where it's come from but I'm being portrayed as a married man, which makes it much worse. Someone has made it up and everyone's just taken it on.

"Apart from being an idiot, I've not done a lot wrong. It was a good con and I would have been proud of that myself.

"I thought it would die down in two days but it's carrying on. Not many people have 650,000 internet pages about them, but it's all for the wrong reasons.

"It's not fair on me or my ex-wife. We may be divorced but I don't like the fact it's affecting her. I'm trying to get access to my son and this is not helping me."

Stuart said magazine and television companies – including Trisha – had bombarded the former matrimonial home with calls. But he had moved out and ex-wife Louise – the mother of their four-year-old boy – had been forced to deal with them.

Stuart went on holiday to Cancun in Mexico in November to celebrate his divorce after eight years of marriage.

He broke his ankle when one of his Scouse tormentors threw him in the pool.

Stuart said: "Since I got divorced I've been on Facebook all the time. I've had a broken ankle for four months and haven't been able to work anyway.

"Before 'Emma' I'd met two other girls through Facebook, so it's not unusual. But now I just want it all to stop."
