| If I were to kill and eat another human being I would be locked up and branded as insane and/or a social deviant.
It's as simple as that really.
However, as I said, I'm absolutely a hypocrite. I'm an omnivore. There is no excuse, I'm just a bit pathetic really...

| I'd say that goes for most of us!.......I'm totally against animal cruelty, in fact I bury my head in the sand when it's in the headlines, I can't bare to look or read.... but I do enjoy a nice piece of chicken or beef, I just can't help myself! | |

| Personally think there is something wrong with veggies. As someone who has never eaten Salad, fruit in his life, and the only veg i eat is spuds, peas and maybe finely cut carrot in a stew. Most of my diet is meat and i love it. I think if i did that hypno regression thing to find out who you were in a former life i really think i was a T-Rex | |

| I always say to vegetarians, have you heard the screams of new baby potatotes. Especialy if they are commenting on my meat preferance. Sort them out. Those that eat meat, eat veggies as well. Those that eat veggies have an unbalanced dietry intake. Neither side are right or wrong. We have a choice and both sides should respect that. | |

| If i dont preach my Vegetarianism then i refuse to be preached at back by someone who eats meat....
I have my beliefs, but, i repeat, they are MY beliefs and i wouldn't force them on anyone...
My kids all eat meat as does the grandson (and the new one will too i assume)...

| Each to there own ... I don't feel too strongly either way. But ... like Gaz mentioned, its the preachers who I can't stand, if you wanna be a veggy then be one, don't spend your life trying to convert the rest. Its the same with non smokers or reformed smokers ... nothing worse | |

| Like I say, it's not something I feel strongly enough to give somebody shit about ... I'll take the piss like, naturally.
Years ago me and a mate went to some music festival in Reading (not THE Reading festival) ... it was a proper hippy fest. We couldn't find a a van that sold meat ANYWHERE ... so ends up at the last van and me mate is like 'Look, can you just do us a bacon butty or something?'
No joke, we literally got heckled away from the van by a bunch of scruffy, dreadlock types ... thought it was gonna kick off for a minute lol. Anyway, we ended up having to walk all the way to reading centre just for a bit of meat ... fuckin' banished! Hahaha

| Womad? Anyway, Gaz, I'd still be interested to know to which kind of Vegetarianism you subscribe. 'Vegetarian' itself is kind of a broad term and tells you almost nothing about why and, in actuality, very little about what. Genuine interest. | |

Genuine interest. Well, i've been Vegetarian for as far back as i can remember really, right from a small child, and the reasoning i think was the cruelty issue, i used to cry when horses got killed in Western movies and suchlike so as soon as i discovered it was actual animals i was eating i refused to eat them anymore... As i got older it was easier to explain in the way that the chewing through nerves, veins, sinews, tendons or other fills me with disgust, whereas other folk can just put it out of their minds and its just a piece of meat... I have to check packaging for suitable for vegetarians but its no biggy nowadays, theres masses and masses on the market for 'hippies' like me.... I do and always have eaten dairy (am cetainly not a Vegan) so i eat all the things others do apart from the meat...for eg, on a Sunday lunch i will have everything apart from a roast (gravy has to be instant Bisto though, not the stuff done in meat juices), i'd have Linda Mcartney sausages instead..I can do the same with a barbeque, i'd have Lindas and Quorn Burgers...so i dont go without anything really...

| I'd applaud you if I didn't think it would come across as patronising... I have to ask though (and these are not 'digs') Don't you feel unbearably frustrated and kind of useless because the cruelty continues regardless, or is it okay as long as you don't feel a part of it? Of course, I'm not suggesting that you are responsible for the actions of others, but you must feel some urge to stop it? Is it really any less immoral to kill a plant? The lesser of two evils is still evil? /cliche for the day. In my opinion the only morally stable diet is 'jain-like' beans and fruit type jobby. I think it boils down to, 'Why should anything else die so that I can live?' OH THE HYPOCRISY !!! but as I mentioned before, 'pathetic'.P.S - Isn't quorn made from mould? | |

| http://purelyvegan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=info&action=display&thread=22^^^ all answers to questions can be found there including how we get nutrients that we can get from plant matter. There is no excuse for eating meat, dairy, eggs etc for the majority of the human race so it shouldn't be done. It's a farce to say vegans etc are nutritionally deficient. In general veg*ns are actually more healthy because they're not putting as many carcinogenic containing substances in their body (meat - milk/eggs etc for vegans). Myself, and many others are living proof you do not to consume animal products. And no, I do NOT take supplements - which you'll find more meat eaters than veg*ns will take since the majority are aimed at omnivorous humans (gelatine, milk, fish oils etc in a lot of supplements). | |

I use the word 'excuse' lightly as I don't really feel I need to be excused by anybody for most things I CHOOSE to do (or eat) In your opinion it 'shouldn't be done' maybe ... or are you trying to preach?

| Just because something happened (or has happened) for a long time doesn't mean it's right. If so then I could justify murder, rape, theft, slavery and all sorts of other evils...
Just because it's 'humane' doesn't mean it's right. If I murdered another human in the same way I would be locked up...
Just because someone or something else is doing it doesn't make it right. The fact is we have a choice...
Forget the cruel circumstances; do you not see a problem with the fact that living things are 'mass produced'?
Can you answer the question, 'Why should something else die for me to live'? I sure as hell can't, but I'd be it interested in your opinion.
It is a personal choice, but to deny it's morally questionable is also narrow minded, no?
