What do you think happens when we die, do we get reincarnated, go to heaven or hell or just turn to dust?

Dust.

I think that the energy, the spark which makes us think carrys on though. It's just that, without the the body - we have no way of recognising it, no way of feeling it, we don't have the physical consciousness to.

Hope I'm wrong ...

Where we go I don't know but I always think of it like this........

Our bodies are made up of lots of parts, a bit like a radio, and all these parts have to work in conjunction with each other (again like the radio) If one part stops working then the whole thing stops.....but to run a radio you need batteries or electricity right? There must be an invisible energy that makes all our body parts work together, you may say that's the heart?...but the brain tells the heart to work, what tells the brain to work etc? I like to think it's that invisible energy again, some call it spirit or soul or karma?

To me it's that energy that lives on once the body has turned to dust. Does it go into another vessel, does it go to heaven or hell? I don't know but some of life's questions just aren't meant to be answered.

Why not?

I wish I could define conciousness (if that's even the right word). Although I can't begin to, I do think that it has to be far 'greater' than us... the physical us anyway.

There are many interesting and appealing ideas - certain interpretations of the holographic paradigm, for example; Elements of Buddhism (samsara, dharma, etc); I'd imagine, in the face of death, even the Christian concept of eternal life ... countless others, but they are things I wish to be true, not that I believe necessarily are.

I think before we can even begin to contemplate 'what happens when we die?' we need to come to a proper understanding of what 'we' are ...
Am I allowed to ask that question here? What are we?

EDIT: By that I don't mean to disregard what's already been said, I just mean that these theories open up a seemingly endless array of questions that we can try to answer, so, shall we?

For example, if you believe in an 'invisible force' or 'spirit' then, surely, as important as where they go/it goes when we die, where did they/it come from in the first place? Were they/was it born with us, or have they/has it always existed, or something in between? Are they/is it a part of us ... are we a vessel for them/it ... are they/is it us? Extending that, are we all personalities of the same thing (imagine a schizophrenic spirit 'poly-pus', each of us an arm - not a good analogy, but it made me chuckle)...?

I ruddy come back and haunt the NHS and strangle its staff when they don't do their ruddy jobs properly. Especially Dr's with rude non existant bedside manner.

Aside from that we are worm fodder or fertilzer depending how you get done at the end. Our energy (soul) simply turns off.

What happens to us depends on how we are treated after we snuff it. You either end up as a pile of ashes or worm food. Either way i personally don't believe we go to a heaven or hell. I think that was all created because of man's fear of what is actually beyond death (or the fact we don't know what is) , and the human races inability to just accept that once you die there is nothing, your time is up and you are no longer. Therefore we had to create something beyond death.
I sometimes think that if mankind believed the truth they would make more of the time they had on earth, be more willing to make more of the short time we actually have

I'm "alive" and I'll probably "die" before I can comprehend them but if they are directly opposing concepts then can't we assume that there is more to 'death' then simply not 'being'; just as 'life' is more than being said to be?

Surely, if we are to liken the 'soul' to energy, it would be - bearing in mind the conservation of energy - more accurate to describe it as a transformation, rather than flicking a switch and it's gone? In which case ones return to the earth becomes literal, observable and scientifically examinable even.

If it were true, we could dispose of [what would be] the myth of death. Transcendence becomes reality ... 'life' too comes into question.

This could also coincide with the idea that we are, in fact, the food of the universe; In turn begging the question, is the universe conscious? A sci-fi writer's dream...

Doesn't the fear and frustration of not knowing also extend to 'life'?

If we consider your (the) definitions of life and death, then, surely, we can only consider ourselves 'empty' ... organic robots ... a cocktail of chemicals.

In which case, why?

Doesn't that viewpoint lend itself to the idea of a creator, we were designed and made for a purpose just like our computers?

I've got question after question after question... won't somebody indulge me?

Why does it mean we have to have been created for a purpose, other than just to be. Just a combination of chemicals, conditions and circumstances that came together to created living organisms. I think the purpose/meaning of life is just to live and do what you can with the time you have.

But it does raise so many questions.

It doesn't, it's just a plausible premise from that standpoint.

In your chaotic view of existence how can free will exist? If thought is only the effect of a combination of chemicals then only through control of those chemicals can thought be manipulated. Either there is something beyond this chemical cocktail or we live in a deterministic (or, at least, uncontrollable) system.

A) Why or how would a combination of chemicals doubt itself?
B) If 'you' do not choose what 'you' do or think do 'you' really exist (in any worthwhile way)?
