In order to Jailbreak successfully you have to have the 3.1.2 firmware. If you have 3.1.3 or higher as of now your iPod Touch or iPhone will be bricked. Which means you can not use it and have to send it into Apple and they wont fix it.
I didn't bother to jailbreak my iPhone. if i ever buy an iPod touch, which I have no real use for, I'll jailbreak that. However, I'm gonna just wait for OS 4.0
Which has already been jailbroken by developers who got their hands on a beta copy of it.

Apple will surely change the OS so that jailbreak wont work before they release. And most likely fire the employee who left it on that bar stool.
