| Every time i start my laptop itakes ages to load and i end u with 3 warnings that pop up on the desktop (pictured below). Does anyone know an easy way of fixing this problem? Also (not sure if it has something to do with the above problem), whenever i click on links or results found by search engines such as google, i am always redirected to other sites instead. I have to go back and click the link over and over a few times before it will open the actual page it is meant to. Any ideas? (i have run anti-virus but it not found anything). | |

| I had this a while back ... does the search re-direct you to something like Lyco-Search?
I googled it and got a free trial of some malware thing that blasted it away, took me ages though, until then I had to use another 'user' on the comp .
I'll google and see if i can remember now

| Which anti-virus do you have? Where does it redirect you to? Download and run MalwareBytes and Spybot - Search & Destroy ( run them repeatedly until they produce 0 results ). If they can't find the problem then run MSConfig, go to the "Startup" tab and post it here, then run Hijack This and post the log here too. | |

| Have you cleared out the temp files, cookies and history of your browser? That might have something lurking in there reloading itself.
You can try and put the windows os disc in and select repair. That may fix the system32 errors. But if its a spyware ofr malware issues it may reappear.
Have you tired downloading a different browser/ or telling the browser you want a certain page as a homepage and search?

So far downloaded the MAlwareBytes program and it found 21 problems!!!! So much for the current antivirus program i got. Haven't used the spybot yet as it won't load unless i uninstall the avg antivirus.

Have you tired downloading a different browser/ or telling the browser you want a certain page as a homepage and search? That was the first thing i ever did with no luck Gris! I can't for the life of me remember where the OS disc is, so that option is gone. The homepage is set to google. When i click on a search result, where it redirects me to changes all the time. Most of the time it's adverts, but sometimes it seems to be to random pages, even youtube.

It pays to have a firewall, anti virus and spyware/malware software. It narrows the odd to having invders arrive on your hardrive.

| Google virus, not googles but a worm named as it targets google. The apti file gets hit as does the hosts in some cases. Certainly sounds like that is what you have, but I maybe wrong. Only do this is you feel you can. Write the info in the HOSTS file just incase you need to put it back. (1) Click START > RUN > and type in "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" (2) When prompted, open the HOSTS file in either Notepad or Wordpad (3) Delete all the lines of IP addresses in the text document except for "127.0.0.1 localhost". If you find several lines of IP numbers other than localhost in your hosts file, then this is almost definitely your problem and will be fixed right away. If not, then this probably isn't the issue, but it's worth a look. If not go direct to this link and follow instructions for it, again only if you feel ok to do so. combofix | |

| Well, I meant for you to type out the Startup list from MSConfig ( I guess you could take a screenshot but the display isn't actually all that good ) but since you have HijackThis you might as well use it. For the main log you need to: Run HijackThis -> Click "Do a system scan and save logfile" -> Copy and paste the contents of the text file it creates. What you've already posted is the changelog of HijackThis itself and I'm not entirely sure where you copied it from. For the startup log you need to: Run HijackThis -> Click "Open the Misc Tools section" -> Click "Generate StartupList log" -> Copy and paste the contents of the text file it creates. However, you mention that you're still getting redirected but not the .dll problem, does that mean that Malwarebytes found and fixed that? Of course you should still run Malwarebytes often ( and each time repeatedly until it finds nothing ) but if we are only left with the "Google Hijack" then ( as far as I know ) it will not be picked up by any popular tools and requires a manual fix ( As GG suggested, ComboFix may work, but I'm not sure since I have no experience with it at all, except for being warned off of it a couple of times ). You can replace "atapi.sys" in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers" but it means finding your OS disc... To be honest I don't really have any other ideas. Good luck | |

You have got google worm. Open up your host file(right click and open as admin) and look to see if there are entries other than localhost 127 etc.

Wouldn't an altered Hosts file redirect every time rather than just sometimes?

Wouldn't an altered Hosts file redirect every time rather than just sometimes? Not when the worm is targetting Google only. You'd get intermittant issues but everytime you did a google up the worm comes again. Gogole worm only targets google as that is the intention of its creator to ruin google. The list TK posted, to me reading it, it showed a lot of alteration specifically to the host, ip, browser, search engines etc.
