PDSA limit Pedigree dogs/cats to one for treatment only from July 2011

A couple of people I know who use the PDSA have phoned me in tears about a letter sent to them informing............

That from July 2011 the PDSA will only treat one Pedigree dog or cat, by their defintion pedigree dog or cat is one that is of a recognisable breed type, irrespective of whether pedigree papers are available or not.

Those who are already registered have an extended period of treatment on the second pedigree animal but after that the limit is to one dog/cat pedigree only.

Any pedigree pet that has ongoing continous medication will be the only one treated. However you can register 2/3 dogs or cats and have cross-breeds all treated. It is soley down to the Pedigree dog and cats that have this unfair exclusion upon.

I can understand the tears, anger and frustration this is going to cause and the increase in dumped animals. I

Personally this begs belief that the PDSA would pull such a stunt and put at risks those animals who will now find themselves abonded or untreated because of this stupidty.


As I visited one of those who recieved the letter, she asked me to look for a home for one of her pedigree dogs. A rescued dog she took in and now due to the current climate and the PDSA exclusion policy she will not be able to afford Vet bills for it.

This is going to be an ugly situation with dogs and cats of the pedigree nature being dumped/abandoned or killed.

I'd call it a farce and thats as politely as I can say. There is uproar in the rescue centres over this..they are all ready full and now this stunt.
