Excuse my ignorance on this but I always thought that a person with HIV had to share bodily fluids with someone to pass on the infection? If you were scratched by the patient, blood possibly drawn by you, then the chances are relatively small? I suppose it all depends on what lay underneath the persons fingernails? You work in the profession and will obviously know the score much better than I, but it's bound to be worrying non the less.

As for the on call doctor, that's just effin disgraceful!
She's a professional FFS! How many other patients has she refused to treat because it doesn't suit her? Do they not take the Hippocratic anymore?

As for contamination, yes your right. The chances are small but it's just that not knowing if i have or haven't, or as you say not knowing what could have been under the nails of the person in question.
