In today's society is there any need for people to get married? Should we just save money and live "over the brush" as they say or do you think it's still important to make that commitment?

So what you are saying is, a piece of paper means your committed? That is what is boils down to at the end of the day. That piece of paper entitles you half of everything and the right to express your other halfs wishes in the event of something final.

Without that piece of paper, you get a major battle riddled headache and heartache that just isn't fair and means you are not committed.

Makes it worse that same sex couples have more rights than the 'live in sin' brigade. Why is that?

Why should you have to get that piece of paper to validate your legal rights. Why can't I register the death of my 'in sin'partner. Why can't I have half of the estate, why can't I express my' in sin's partners wishes. How is all that fair and why the emphasis on marriage. After all same sex marriages are not recognised as proper marriages.

I'd actually forgotten about the legal side to marriage, I was only thinking on a "love" level.
You are indeed right, the law should make the playing field level whereby a partner is entitled to the same amount of respect and financial gain as a married person. Same sex partnerships should also be under the same fair rules, after all a relationship is a relationship in which ever colour it's painted.

This being said......if that law where to be changed then marriage probably would die out, or at least numbers would go down dramatically, it would purely be for the true romantics surely?
