A man who fathered two children by his daughter during three decades of "horrendous" abuse has been jailed for 12 yearThe 68-year-old, from Essex,
who cannot be identified, admitted
offences including rape, incest and indecent assault during a hearing
at Chelmsford Crown Court.
The case has been compared to that of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man
who imprisoned his daughter and fathered seven children by her.
Police praised the bravery of the man's daughter, now aged 45, who came forward after telling a friend about the abuse.
"The victim in this case showed incredible courage," said Detective
Constable Emily Monk, a member of Essex police's child abuse
investigation unit.
"This was an extremely serious case where a man had abused his daughter over a very long period of time.
"She was not physically imprisoned but he controlled her and she felt she could not leave.
"The crimes came to light when she spoke to a friend and that friend persuaded her to contact us.
"Her courage is a lesson for all women in similar situations.
"If people are brave enough we will investigate and people will be punished for their crimes.
"It has been an agonising journey for her and she is a very strong and determined woman who deserves every credit."
The two children, who are both teenagers, thought the Essex pensioner was their grandfather, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
"This victim was put through a horrendous ordeal at the hands of
this man, who has continually abused her," a CPS spokesman said.
"We hope the victim can now move on positively with her life."
