| New Tickets for Troops scheme unveiled
A new initiative, designed to offer members of the Armed Forces free tickets to major sports, arts and entertainment events, has been launched at the O2 Arena in London.
The Tickets for Troops scheme, which was first announced by Conservative Party leader David Cameron, has led to the establishment of a not-for-profit, politically independent company to make thousands of tickets exclusively available to UK servicemen and women. Tickets have been donated by a range of football and cricket clubs, venues and promoters as part of the scheme, including the Universal Music Group, ten English Premier League football clubs and Cheltenham Racecourse. Scottish Premier League football clubs, English county cricket clubs, Frank Warren Promotions, the Lawn Tennis Association and World Snooker are also among the organisations to provide tickets. Tickets for Troops patron Gary Lineker said: "As a country, we seem to have suddenly gained a respect and a pride in our armed forces, which in many ways is long overdue. Tickets for Troops recognises these are very special people for the extraordinary things they do every day of their lives." Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for courageous acts while on tour in Iraq, added: "It is heartening and uplifting for any serving soldier or ex-soldier to know that people really appreciate the work they do."

| ^^^ Get your magnifying glasses out Haha FOOTBALL clubs including Blackburn Rovers and Burnley have supported the launch of a new Tickets for Troops scheme. The initiative will offer free tickets to sports and entertainment events to serving military personnel and veterans who have been discharged through injury since 2001.
The clubs, along with Lancashire Cricket Club have all donated tickets. Burnley chief executive Paul Fletcher said: “It’s a great idea and a simple way to show our servicemen and women and their families that we appreciate their bravery and commitment on our behalf.
"We look forward to welcoming our troops and fans to Burnley.”
I'd rather be shot at by the taliban than watch Burnley week in week out

| Its been done for the last year or two at Rangers, we were the first British club to do it.
The last European game at home the Rangers board gave 1000 ticket away for free for the troops that just came back from Afghanistan, just a pity we got humped 4-1 and they had to sit through it.
Its a shame the team from the other side of Glasgow WONT do the same thing, they prefer supporting terrorist organisations.
Well done to Blackburn & Burnley for showing the support to the troops and their families.
Would love to see all clubs in Britain do the same, even the smaller clubs.
Only a small percentage of clubs actually sell out their games so its not as if they will lose out on money, they would probably make extra revenue from the sale of merchandise and food. And for the ones who normally sell out their home games probably wouldn't miss the money a few hundred tickets would make.
I still reckon that there should be more done to show our support for the troops in this country, but thats a whole different debate.

| Nice one I agree, more should be done. I'd give each and every one of them the 'key' to the country if I had my way. | |
