Three police officers have been carpeted after students took saucy snaps of themselves in a police station then posted the pictures on the internet.
The four girls posed wearing helmets, jackets and even boots in a locker room, inside a riot van and bent over a patrol car after being taken in for interview following a bar brawl.
The pictures were then posted on Facebook - to the deep embarrassment of Staffordshire Police.
A spokesman said the force and the officers involved 'regretted' the incident at Burton-upon-Trent station, saying the two PCs and an acting sergeant on duty had admitted failing to keep the girls under control
"The three officers involved have now been spoken to by senior officers and transferred to operational roles elsewhere within the divisional policing area.
"We are extremely disappointed by these events and will be doing everything possible to prevent a similar occurrence in the future."
Mr Harrison said the officers made several attempts to stop the women taking photos: "These were not heeded or firmly enforced," he added.
A spokesman for the Taxpayers' Alliance said: "How this has been allowed to happen in a police station of all places completely beggars belief."
Other pictures were taken while the two alleged victims were taken to interview rooms, when their friends were left in supposedly secure waiting rooms at one of the county's most secure stations.
One photo showed them posing in hats and fluorescent jackets they found inside a police van and was taken moments before they were driven back to the town centre in the vehicle. The assault suspect was later released without charge.
Assistant Chief Constable Mick Harrison said: "The force and the officers involved very much regret the negative way that the photographs and the circumstances in which they were taken could be perceived
The girls - Abi Vyse, 17, Grace Slights, 18, Giorgia Spencer, 18, and Susie Mandleberg, 17 - are understood to live in and around the affluent village of Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, and attend a local specialist science college.
Miss Vyse, one of the alleged victims, was pictured trying on a pair of police boots in the men's locker room after being taken to an adjoining washroom to wash off blood from her hair and face
The officers have now been moved to other parts of the county following an internal investigation.
The incident happened after officers were called to a report of a brawl at the town's Barracuda bar late on December 5.
A 22-year-old woman was arrested over the brawl and taken to the police station, followed by the four students in the pictures, two of whom were alleged victims with the other two being treated as potential witnesses
