What does it mean to be [insert nationality here]?

I realise that over a number of topics people have touched upon the idea of nationality and nationalism, but I don't think we have had a real discussion specific to the issue(?).

National identity (especially in Britain) seems to be of ever growing interest/concern, so let's talk about it?

Of course nobody is limited in their response, but I would like to start with the questions - What qualifies someone for citizenship and what does citizenship really mean?

Citizenship = Being aware of the culture you are living in, understand the rules, knowing some of the countries history, being able to converse adequately enough with your fellow citizens. Respecting your fellow citizens.

All the above would apply to ANY good citizen in ANY country.............

A good sense of humour
A rich and varied history
A Monarchy
Triumph in the face of adversity
Backs against the wall
A stiff upper lip
A good dose of eccentricity

Are you indigenous?

Is anybody?

Does it matter?

What do you mean by 'own'? Have you purchased the land or something?

My view........

Can we the residents of England actually call ourselves indigenous?

We are made up of so many parts, Anglo Saxon, Viking, Roman......and I think there are some french bits in there too?

Maybe we have now created our own indigenous culture?

I'm not sure?
