| Yup same here, like a bit of curling and bob-sleigh, ski jumping and ice skating, not much for the cross country or the hockey, 8 hours time difference so it looks like we could be stopping up late for a while? | |

| An Olympics star has died in an horrific 90mph luge accident at the winter games Georgian hopeful Nodar Kumaritashvili flew off the track and into a metal pole in Whistler, Canada. Medics administered CPR at the scene following the second of two training runs. Kumaritashvili was then placed on a stretcher with blood pouring from his head and taken away in an ambulance. An International Olympic Committee official confirmed tonight that the luger had died Witnesses told how the 21-year-old crashed at one of the fastest points near the bottom of the track on the final 270-degree turn. He hit both sides of the wall before being hurled over the top and smashing into the pole at the side of the track Earlier Italian Armin Zoeggler, the 2002 and 2006 gold medalist, also crashed but was not badly injured. On Wednesday there were several accidents during women's luge training runs. Romania's Violeta Stramaturaru was knocked unconscious for a few minutes and taken to hospital. The track is widely-regarded as one of the most dangerous in the sport. | |

| Great Britain's Amy Williams has won gold in the women's skeleton at the Winter Olympics Gold medallist Amy Williams was competing at her first Winter Olympics She becomes Britain's first gold medallist in an individual discipline at the Winter games in 30 years, following ice skater Robin Cousins' triumph at Lake Placid in 1980. Williams hugged team-mates and wrapped herself in a Union Flag after her win at the track in Whistler, Canada. She was in the lead going into the fourth and final run, and held off Kerstin Szymkowiak from Germany. She also beat home favourite Mellisa Hollingsworth, who ended up fifth, and survived a protest against the legality of her helmet. Williams' team-mate Shelley Rudman, who won silver at Turin four years ago, missed out on the podium this year. Williams described her triumph as "crazy" She told the BBC: "I am absolutely speechless. It's all a blur. I can't even remember half of it. "I just came out the bottom and looked at my coach." Williams added that she wanted to "give her mum a hug". The athlete was competing at her first Winter Olympics. She reputedly complained of "not really liking it" after her first go on the skeleton, but won a silver medal after entering the World Push Championships in 2002. Last year she won a silver medal in the World Championships, and another silver in the World Cup race in Whistler. British Skeleton president Bryn Vaile said Williams put in an "awesome" performance. Speaking from Vancouver, he said: "She peaked at the right time. She broke the track record twice. She put the whole thing together well. "The whole operation at British Skeleton over the last four years has been targeted to this, and at the last three Olympics we have gone from bronze to silver and now gold. "It is an awesome result for the sport because it has been such a team performance." | |
