| Why moan about XP, its so much better than Vista, especially if the PC isn't that powerful. Windows 7 is what you want if you like Vista, it uses loads less resources and even looks cooler !!and it has some great enhancements Back to the volume issue, what do you mean?? Has it got sound?? | |

| I much prefer Windows XP too!
Maybe the sound drivers need re-installing? | |

| Does it have 'onboard' sound or is it running from a pci soundcard, whichever it is Maisstake suggested reinstalling the drivers for the onboard sound or pci card. Go to 'Control Panel and open the sound option, does it look like this below or does it say 'No sound device'?? | |

| Well it should work then!!!! What speakers do you have plugged in??? Are you plugging them into the 'onboard' sound or a pci soundcard? The green socket?? | |

| Vista, I hate it, stick with XP far more reliable and less resource hogging. Volume, means hardrive space as well as in, Volume = Partition = your c drive and it can't be altered. Also known as GUID, Globally Unique Identifier or Volume Serial Number. It cannot be changed. Tampering with that and it will unlease a mother of hellfire that you will make you wish you'd never been born. You can name it if it says, Volume in drive C has no label
It doesn't matter whether is has a name or not; and it's unrelated to the other values that the GUID use. It sounds as though something may have corrupted the volume so a wipe out and reset may be benefical if is that volume. If it is sound related try this, go to run type "dxdiag" with out commas press YES if asked a new window will be opened.. it will scan your system for hardwares click on the sound tab You will find the model and driver version of your sound card there. Or You could try Uknown device Identifier, it's freeware:- Or run a windows update it may find the driver and reset it for you.
